Estimate based on the byelaws and DGT criteria checked on 15 October 2026. The byelaw in force and, for the label, the DGT number-plate lookup have the final word. How we calculate

Zaragoza’s 2026 vehicle tax (IVTM) sets these car rates: €20.30 under 8 fiscal hp, €56.10 from 8 to 11.99, €123.60 from 12 to 15.99, €161.30 from 16 to 19.99, €201.60 from 20. An average car rated at 11.5 fiscal hp pays €56.10 a year and a large one at 17 hp, €161.30. The national minimum under section 95 for the 8 to 11.99 hp band is €34.08, so Zaragoza applies a multiplier of 1.646 in that band, within the legal maximum of 2. It is paid by whoever is the registered owner on 1 January, to the town on the registration document; in the year of first registration it is pro-rated by quarter. The byelaw provides 4 kinds of relief, listed in the table below.

Its own rates, approved in December 2025

Zaragoza’s road-tax byelaw was finally approved on 23 December 2025 and published in the provincial gazette on 27 December. It gives amounts directly rather than multipliers: 56.10 euros for an 8 to 11.99 hp car and 123.60 between 12 and 15.99, below València, Málaga or Barcelona.

Relief separates three engine cases and rewards long periods: no end for electric cars, ten years for CERO plug-ins, six for hybrids. Historic vehicles pay only 5% of the amount. If you drive in the centre, remember that Zaragoza’s zone requires the sticker to be on show.

What drivers ask

How long does plug-in hybrid relief last in Zaragoza?

With the DGT CERO label, ten calendar years from first registration, at 75%. A self-charging hybrid gets the same 75% for six years, and a pure electric car keeps it with no end date. In all three cases you must apply at the council register or the tax office.

Is there a low-CO2 discount in Zaragoza?

Yes, for newly registered cars under 100 g/km of CO2: 40% in the first year, 20% in the second, 10% in the third and fourth and 5% in the fifth and sixth. It cannot be combined with the engine-type relief.

Can engine relief and emissions relief be combined in Zaragoza?

No. The byelaw says the engine-type relief and the relief for newly registered cars under 100 g/km of CO2 do not apply at the same time. If your car qualifies for both, only one applies; for an electric car, the 75% with no end date is the better option.
